SHWF to attend health ministers meeting on avian influenza
The Secretary for Health, Welfare and Food, Dr York Chow, will take part in the World Health Organization (WHO) and Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Plus Three Member States Health Ministers Meeting on Avian Influenza to be held in Thailand on Friday (November 26).
Hong Kong will take part in the meeting as members of the Chinese delegation.
Hong Kong members of the delegation are: Deputy Director of Food and Environmental Hygiene, Dr Mak Sin-ping; Deputy Secretaries for Health, Welfare and Food, Mr Eddy Chan and Miss Susie Ho; Assistant Director of Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation, Mr Lai Ching-wai; Consultant Community Medicine of Department of Health, Dr Thomas Tsang; Principal Assistant Secretary for Health, Welfare and Food, Miss Vivian Ko; and Senior Veterinary Officer of Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department, Dr Howard Wong.
During the meeting, health ministers from countries of the Southeast Asian region at risk of avian influenza will review the situation of avian influenza in Asia and recommend modalities for collaboration among countries in the prevention and control of the disease.
Dr Chow will leave for Bangkok on Thursday evening (November 25) and return to Hong Kong the next evening.
