HWFB clarifies media report on drugs
In response to a press report, a spokesman of the Health, Welfare and Food Bureau clarified today (August 16) that the Government had at no time considered any plan to introduce any scheme that would require patients to purchase drugs that were more effective or would generate fewer side effects.
"Public hospitals and clinics have all along provided patients with all drugs necessary and effective for the treatment of their diseases, including 'expensive drugs'. No patient will be denied necessary and effective treatment because of the lack of means," said the spokesman. "The only exception is a handful of Privately Purchased Medical Items listed in the gazette.
"The Government's policy is that the Hospital Authority will continue to provide effective drug treatment to patients," the spokesman stressed.
